  • Teams should contain two to five members.

  • All the members must be currently enrolled in a university or college.

  • The technology developed must address a need in at least one of the categories in the themes section.

  • Mobile devices encouraged are iOS devices (iPhone, iPad) and Android devices.

  • Apps may be native, and device specific (run on the devices) or be web-apps (run on many mobile devices).

  • Apps must run on devices that are not "jailbroken" or otherwise tampered with in a way that violates the manufacturer's terms of service.

  • Teams retain all rights to any software they develop.

  • Open Source models will be looked upon favorably but are not mandatory.  You can certainly develop the open source project further as a proprietary project.

  • If a member of the press would like to write an article on the Challenge, you must allow us to make a team email address available to them to contact you.

  • Projects must not be sponsored research or faculty project.

  • All work on entries must be performed by team members. No work is permitted to be outsourced to other individuals or entities.

  • Entries must be original, any form of plagiarism or use of apps from previous years’ competition is grounds for disqualification.

  • A faculty mentor for your project is strongly encouraged.

  • Entries may be rejected if they do not meet the submission requirements or contain material deemed to be inappropriate.

  • To be eligible, entries must not have been submitted to any commercial app store prior to the end of the competition.

  • The major functionality of an app entry must work for the prototype to be eligible.

  • Hyrac Tech reserves the right to disqualify any submission or student from the  Mobile App Challenge at any time for any reason.

  • Hyrac Tech reserves the right to amend any rule of this competition at any time for any reason.

  • Students who submit an entry agree to participate in a recorded promotional video, if requested to do so.

  • Failure to comply with the official rules, will result in disqualification, forfeit of any prize and, at Sponsor's discretion, an alternate winner may be selected from all remaining eligible entries.

  • Judging: The submissions will be graded by a team of experienced developers. Submissions will be graded with regard to the completeness of the solution, code readability (this includes the use of comments and refactoring of duplicate code); and adherence to object oriented principles. The decisions of the Sponsor on all matters relating to this contest are final.

  • Details for Submissions: Coding and written submissions must be the entrant's  original work and entrants must abide by all contest rules.

  • At the bottom of your written proposal you must indicate that you have read, and agreed to the Rules on this Competition.

  • Code submissions should not include any identifiable data (i.e. name, school, team name). Participants should only use team number. Judges reserve the right to disqualify submissions which use unsupported technology. Code Submissions should include both source code and an executable binary file; such as a JAR with a Main class, a WAR, or an EAR. Submission files should be a ".zip" file compatible with the 7-zip application.

  • Liability and Release: By entering this contest, entrant agrees that the Sponsor and its subsidiaries, and affiliates, and each of their respective directors, employees, and agencies will be released and held harmless for any injuries, losses, or damages of any kind related in any way or sustained in connection with participation in the contest, travel to the contest, acceptance, use or misuse, of the prize. The Sponsor has neither made, nor is in any manner responsible or liable for, any warranty, representation, or guarantee, express or implied, in fact or in law, relative to any prize, regarding the use, value or enjoyment of the prize, including, without limitation, its quality, mechanical condition or fitness for a particular purpose.

  • Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to revoke any and all privileges associated with competing in this contest and to take any other action they deem appropriate, for no reason or any reason whatsoever, including if Sponsor suspects entrants of cheating, tampering with the entering process, the operation of the Web site, or the contest process, or otherwise being in violation of the rules. Sponsor reserves the right to cancel, terminate, or modify the tournament if it is not capable of completion as planned for any reason, including infection by computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention or technical failures of any sort. In the event of termination of the contest, Sponsor may, at its discretion, select the winner(s) from all eligible, non-suspect entries received prior to event requiring such termination.

  • Trademarks: Any trademarks used in this promotion are the property of the respective trademark owners and are used for identification purposes only.

  • Use of Name and Likeness: By entering, entrants agree that Sponsor and its designees shall have the right and permission to use entrant's name and/or picture, photograph, image or biographical information or voice and/or other likeness and prize information for trade, advertising, promotional and/or any other purposes in any media or format now known or hereafter devised throughout the world in perpetuity without any further compensation, consideration, permission or notification except where prohibited by law.

  • Final teams will all have access to email addresses of other final teams.

  • One cell phone contact number must be provided for each final team in the event that we need to reach you quickly.
